The earliest
American desks evolved from simple boxes that were used to store
important papers and the family Bible. As colonists settled into
permanent homes, their furnishings became more substantial. The
combination of a desk with a chest of drawers, the slant top desk,
was born at the beginning of the 18th century, during the William
and Mary period. It was the first practical desk form and became
the prototype for later desks. Handbuilt in Oak or Cherry.
